Photo of Spain from space taken by ISS

Yes it does, doesn’t it? Spain has always seemed to me a vaster country in some senses, coming from the UK. Fewer people and much more space. There is still lots of space between major Spanish cities.

Here’s a comparison shot of the UK at night from the ISS: http://matbe.net/vNS0JY

Hmmm, an interesting question you raise: who can think of a famous Spanish orator, from any era of history…? I wonder how much as well this has to do with linguistic constraints in each language like stress timing and syllable rhythm…?

@Tim: no negative slant from my end, just seems descriptive. Spain has a very weak negotiating position to start with thanks to Zapatero, and Rajoy has turned up and said “yes, yes, yes, ok, yes, we’ll do all of that, of course”. Compare that to what Cameron has just done by vetoing the treaty modifications to defend the British posture.

Alright, thanks dude, I shall keep working on it then. Looks like this is a format people find interesting. I’ve set the page to refresh every 5 minutes, but that’s easy to change. Depends on what you all want. Thanks for reading!!

Spain correspondent 2.0: first ideas & new organisation

Thanks Hein…! I quite like the suggestion about the top people in Spanish political parties, and perhaps also for Rajoy’s new cabinet in December, when he makes up his mind.

The Wiki idea is also a good one, but that will take some time. Certainly an excellent long-term idea.

Not sure exactly what you’re getting at with Madrid; if you mean the national government and the Madrid regional government, it’s basically because the first has been socialist up to now and the second conservative, and in Spanish regions you have a “Delegado de Gobierno”—from the national government—responsible for things like security. This can cause lots of tension and argument when it comes to things like demonstrations. If you mean between the Madrid regional government and the Madrid city government, I would put that down to leadership tension and good old-fashioned rivalry between Aguirre and Gallardón, which will be very interesting to watch over the next couple of weeks as Rajoy decides who is going to become a minister in his new government.
